Partnership Signed With John Bennett Trust
We are pleased to announce that Crowd Scholar has entered into a three-year partnership agreement with the John Bennett Trust (registered charity number 1053014). The Trust is backing a £1,500 annual scholarship to be granted to a high-achieving black student from a disadvantaged background.
From the John Bennet Trust:
“The John Bennett Trust was set up to honor the memory of John Bennett. John tragically died from cancer in 1992 at the age of 25, just days after qualifying as a solicitor. Coming from a disadvantaged background himself, John overcame difficult odds, achieving good A Levels and a career in law. He was a larger than life character who touched everyone he came into contact with, and his early death had a profound effect on a huge number of people. He was passionate about academic attainment and never missed an opportunity to encourage others to study. After his death, his friends wanted to honour him in some way, and helping others to achieve their academic goals seemed an apt way to do this. Thus the John Bennett Trust was founded.”
Due to underrepresentation in the field, the John Bennet Trust has historically focused on black students pursuing John’s chosen profession of law. This focus will continue during the Trust’s partnership with Crowd Scholar. This year, however, the Trust has kindly agreed to support one of our 2020 Crowd Scholars (all three winners will be announced shortly). In 2021 and 2022, Crowd Scholar will automatically consider all eligible Crowd Scholar applicants for the John Bennet Trust scholarship. Applicants will not have to submit additional materials to be considered and Crowd Scholar is in full control of the selection process.
We look forward to working with the John Bennett Trust in our continued effort to recognise and support high-achieving students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
